In Loving Memory 9/08 - 11/08
For my second donation this year to HSBR, I wanted to send a photo or two of my first bulldog, Barnaby, who we lost in May 2006. He was our first bulldog, and by all means, he was the perfect loyal bully friend and companion. My family and I are definitely what one would consider "dog people." However, after 12 years with Barnaby, none of us realized we could ever love an animal so wholeheartedly, and nothing could have prepared us for the pain of losing such a special little guy.
We bought Barnaby completely out of the blue after a family night out at the mall. My mother, father and little sister immediately fell in love with the sleepy little puppy at the pet store who was so obviously tired from everyone wanting to play with him. Barn grew up right along with my sister and I, since I was 11 and she was 8 when he came to live with us. Through the years we gave him many silly nicknames (my favorite was "Sponge-barn Spoiled-pants) and watched him chew his way through our shoes, furniture and remote controls. And who could forget the year he single-handedly took down the Christmas tree and devoured some of the ornaments? At best he was laid back, loving and loyal and at worst he would eat everything in the house that wasn't nailed down. No matter what, we loved him unconditionally (and still do).
It's been just about 2 1/2 years since Barnaby went to Bulldog Heaven. Since then we have been raising Pudge, another bully holy terror. And while we love Pudge and feel blessed to continue to have the love of a dog in our home, we will never forget Barnaby, and how he epitomized the phrase "man's best friend."
Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to contribute to my favorite animal cause, and for letting me share with everyone a bit about our very special bully angel. :)

In Memory of Rizzo
December 20, 1997 - September 14, 2008
Rizzo was truly the light of my life. I've never loved a dog as much as I loved him and I never will again. He provided joy, laughter, comfort, and understanding always. Just one look at his face and I was happy. He had many great experiences in his life --- he played in the Petsmart Eagles game at Vet Stadium, won Easter and Halloween costume contests, traveled to the shore, and a picture of him dressed as a Marine was shared via e-mail with Marines serving in Iraq. He even visited the Frank Rizzo statue in Philadelphia and even Frank Rizzo Jr. knew him! He was such a celebrity. I will miss him so much. Rizzo joins my Dad and his bulldog Winston in heaven.
